Zur Einführung von Mindestlöhnen: Empirische Relevanz des Niedriglohnsektors

Abstract

Die mögliche Einführung von Mindestlöhnen führt gegenwärtig zu heftigen Kontroversen über die ökonomischen Auswirkungen eines solchen Eingriffs. Die einen befürchten den Wegfall des kompletten Niedriglohnbereichs. Die anderen sehen darin Chancen zu Lohnerhöhungen ohne nennenswerte Konsequenzen. Joachim Ragnitz, Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung Halle, und Marcel Thum, ifo Niederlassung Dresden, untersuchen, wie groß der vom Mindestlohn betroffene Personenkreis ist und wie stark die Arbeitsplatzverluste ausfallen könnten. So würde z.B. ihrer Schätzung nach die Einführung eines Mindestlohns von 7,50 € zu einer Reduktion der Beschäftigung im Niedriglohnbereich um 26,7% führen.
