Migración y Desempleo: Un análisis espacial para el Noroeste Argentino

Abstract

Este trabajo estudia la influencia del fenómeno migratorio sobre la distribución geográfica del desempleo en los departamentos del Noroeste Argentino. Dos escuelas de pensamiento económico presentan teorías opuestas al respecto, la escuela neoclásica sostiene que la migración tendría un efecto equilibrador sobre el desempleo interdepartamental, mientras que la Nueva Geografía Económica (NGE) postula que la migración generaría disparidades de desempleo y posibles agrupamientos departamentales de la actividad económica. Usando datos del Censo 2001, los modelos de regresión espacial señalan que las tasas de inmigración (de corto y mediano plazo), y el nivel relativo de educación inmigrante influyen negativamente sobre la desocupación, incrementando las disparidades entre departamentos (NGE). Además la inmigración, y su capital humano, en departamentos vecinos producen efectos derrame negativos sobre el desempleo local, fundamentando la existencia de agrupamientos departamentales en la actividad económica (NGE).
