Abstract

Depuis ses origines, le MI s'est intéressé à des phénomènes empiriques émergents, dans un premier temps le développement de grandes firmes multinationales et la mondialisation ou la globalisation des affaires, ainsi que l'accroissement des investissements directs à l'étranger (Buckley, 2002), puis plus récemment l'émergence et les stratégies de firmes multinationales issues de pays émergents ou émergés, l'éclatement des chaines de valeurs ou l'impact de la RSE sur les activités des organisations internationales (Buckley et Lessard, 2005). Par ailleurs, le MI examine le plus souvent des objets qui sont des processus dynamiques et non des objets statiques : internationalisation, développement et management des firmes multinationales, processus entrepreneurial international pour n'en citer que quelques-uns. Enfin, parce qu'il s'intéresse à des phénomènes complexes, le MI articule de multiples niveaux d'analyse, bien entendu au niveau micro (individu), méso (organisation) mais aussi macro, c'est-à-dire l'environnement des affaires internationales aux niveaux géopolitique et économique. Cet environnement des affaires est le « théâtre » des pratiques de MI. Le MI en tant que champ scientifique accompagne ses évolutions. Il en mesure les impacts sur les pratiques.
