Abstract

The primary aim of this document is to analyze the health inequality across the Colombian regions, and the leading causes of medical attentions registered in the General System of Social Security in Health. The results show that Bogotá and San Andrés and Providence are healthier than the rest of the population; these regions are also more equal in terms of health. In contrast, Amazonía and Pacífico have relative low health. Moreover, the results exhibit a high prevalence of avoidable diseases, some of them communicable such as respiratory and infectious, and non-communicable as hypertensive.
