Educación en valores y competencias sociales: Diferencias (o no) entre institutos públicos y colegios concertados

Abstract

Pese a existir un amplio consenso en la literatura respecto a la relevancia por igual de las dos componentes del resultado educativo, la formación cognitiva (destrezas intelectuales y conocimientos específicos) y la formación no cognitiva (valores afectivos, de comportamiento social y desarrollo personal), existe un sesgo importante en la atención prestada por los investigadores a ambas componentes, en detrimento de la vertiente no cognitiva. Ello se debe a la dificultad práctica de obtener información acerca de dichos resultados, dada la inexistencia de indicadores estandarizados relacionados. En el presente estudio en curso se pretende avanzar en el conocimiento acerca de los determinantes de este tipo de educación, centrados en este documento en los relacionados con el centro escolar y más concretamente, en la elección por los padres entre escuelas estrictamente públicas y colegios concertados. Para disponer de datos,tanto en cuanto a resultados educativos como respecto a posibles influencias, escolares o no, se ha realizado una encuesta a finales de 2010 a 5500 estudiantes asturianos de 4º de ESO (el 80% de los matriculados en el inicio del curso). Los principales resultados ofrecen como conclusión la irrelevancia de la titularidad del centro escolar en cuanto a esta componente educativa, debido a la similitud de los resultados de los alumnos en colegios públicos y concertados, a diferencia de lo que sucede con los resultados académicos. Sin embargo, si que resulta estadísticamente significativa la variable que recoge el efecto peer group o compañeros. Este último resultado implica que no sería completamente neutral el colegio en que estudie cada alumno en cuanto a su educación en valores y compentencias sociales. De tal modo que las características de sus compañeros, que varían entre centros independientemente de su titularidad, ejercerían cierta influencia sobre sus resultados individuales en este tipo de educación.
