Abstract
The main objective of this research paper is to analyze the economic, social, and environmental impact of wine tourism activities both for wineries and the regions in which they are located. A qualitative case study approach is applied, focusing on Antigal winery, a historic firm located in Maipú, Mendoza, Argentina. Primary data were collected through a semi-structured interview with the winery’s head of visitor experience, supported by direct observation and documentary analysis, which provided an in-depth understanding of the winery’s practices and its interaction with the regional context. It is revealed that, in economic terms, wine tourism generates high-margin revenues, supports brand development, and fosters local economic linkages, while in social and environmental terms it contributes to employment stabilization, cultural valorization, community engagement, landscape preservation, and the gradual integration of sustainable practices. However, challenges remain, including limited data systems and institutional coordination. This study integrates stakeholders, the resource-based view, sustainable development, and experience economy theories into a unified analytical framework, and provides strategic guidance for managers and policymakers to align wine tourism practices with long-term sustainability and competitiveness goals, through an interesting analysis of wine tourism’s impact at different levels, addressing a gap in literature by assessing its economic, social, and environmental contributions in an integrated manner.
