Abstract

(This paper examines how far recruiters use the internet to illuminate the applicant’s background. While this matter is widely discussed in the daily press, the scientific community is only just beginning to show interest in the topic. This paper is based on an experimental exploration. We designed two invented online candidate profiles and sent unsolicited applications to 150 firms. The results show that the use of Google & co. may be a standard procedure in the recruiting process for a significant number of German companies.)
