Abstract

This study aims to clarify the spray and combustion characteristics of dual diesel jet collisions. Two spray angles, 90° and 180°, were analyzed using the schlieren method in a constant volume combustion chamber. The injection pressures were set at 60 MPa, 80 MPa, and 100 MPa, while the ambient pressure was maintained at 4 MPa, and the ambient temperatures were set at 500 K and 800 K for the spray and combustion analyses, respectively. The results indicated that, compared to the 90° spray angle, the diffusion radius, gas spray area, and liquid spray area of 180° spray angle decreased. This reduction is primarily attributed to the higher momentum loss rate of the impact spray at greater injection angles. Regarding combustion characteristics, as the injection angle increased, the flame lift-off length, flame area, and soot emissions from the dual diesel combustion exhibited a decreasing trend. These findings suggest that altering the arrangement angle of the dual injectors can effectively improve the atomization, ignition, combustion, and emission characteristics of the fuel in the cylinder.
