Sectoral Changes in Consumption and Intensity of Energy in India

This paper applies a complete decomposition technique for decomposing the sectoral changes in energy consumption and energy intensity in India during 1980-96. The complete decomposition model decomposes the residual in the general decomposition model by jointly created and equally distributed rule. Results indicate a lack of energy efficiency in the agricultural sector. The aggregate energy intensity is negative and implies an improvement in energy efficiency which, however, is tempered by a strong activity effect.
