Die Herausforderung der Wissensgesellschaft

Abstract

Informationsgesellschaft und Globalisierung stellen neue Anforderungen an die Kompetenz der Firmen, vor allem weil künftige Entwicklungen unter diesen Bedingungen viel schwerer eingeschätzt werden können. Weithin glauben nicht bloß Firmen und Unternehmensberater, sondern zunehmend auch die nationale und internationale Wirtschaftspolitik, dem durch ‚Flexibilisierung', den Verzicht auf längerfristige Bindung der Arbeitskräfte, aber auch der Zulieferverträge, entgegenwirken zu können. Im Rahmen einer ,Kompetenztheorie der Firma' lässt sich jedoch zeigen, dass , Flexibilisierung' genau das Gegenteil von dem bewirkt, was erhofft wird: Es geht auf diese Weise firmenspezifische Kompetenz verloren, die aus dem bewussten und unbewussten (‚tacit‘) Wissen der Mitarbeiter und der spezialisierten Zulieferer besteht. Auf unvorhergesehene Entwicklungen kann die ‚flexible' Firma zwar negativ reagieren - indem sie sich von alten Bindungen durch Kündigung von Mitarbeitern und Verträgen rasch befreit -, mangels firmenspezifischer Kompetenz mangelt es ihr allerdings an positivem Handlungsspielraum, sie wird kaum auf neue Produkte und Verfahren umsteigen können. Der Artikel skizziert Elemente erfolgversprechender Firmenstrategien in der Informationsgesellschaft und zeigt, dass diese nicht bloß für das Überleben der Firmen, sondern gleichermaßen für die Konkurrenzfähigkeit der Volkswirtschaft unverzichtbar sind.
