The Impact of Self-Efficacy and Intrinsic Motivation on Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Does Job Characteristics Play a Moderating Role?

Abstract

Having Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) for pre-service teachers in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic is very important because it shows a willingness to take on extra roles, such as helping students and other teachers, outside of normal working hours. OCB is carried out as an extra effort in dealing with online learning. This study aimed to examine the moderating role of job characteristics in the relationship between Self-efficacy and Intrinsic Motivation on Organizational Citizenship Behavior. The data was collected from pre-service teachers who had or were currently doing an internship program. From 387 pre-service teachers, researchers used the Slovin formula to determine the number of samples, so that 197 samples were obtained. Data were collected from 197 pre-service teachers as respondents, but 147 questionnaires were filled out and declared valid, so the response rate was 75%. With the SEM PLS method, the researcher applied the Smart PLS program to test the research hypothesis. The results showed that intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy affect OCB. The results also showed that job characteristics played a moderating role in the relationship between Self-Efficacy and Intrinsic Motivation on Organizational Citizenship Behavior.
