What Makes a Systematic Literature Review Worth Publishing? Protocol, Transparency, and Critical Synthesis in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

Over the past year, RAC has received a substantial number of systematic literature review submissions, the majority of which were rejected at the desk review stage. This pattern is not incidental. It reveals a persistent gap between what authors believe constitutes a publishable literature review and what journals expect from such contributions. While systematic reviews have become increasingly common, their growing presence has not been accompanied by a proportional increase in conceptual contribution or theoretical advancement...
