Regelkonsens statt Wertekonsens: Die Grundidee des politischen Liberalismus

Abstract

Dieser Beitrag skizziert die Grundidee des „politischen Liberalismus“: Ausgangspunkt ist das „Faktum des Pluralismus“ und darauf aufbauend die Einsicht, dass es strittige Fragen der religiösen Weltanschauung und der privaten Lebensführung gibt, die sich nicht in jedem Fall durch eine vernünftige Diskussion konsensuell entscheiden lassen. Im Sinne von John Rawls zeichnet sich der politische Liberalismus dadurch aus, dass er solche strittigen Fragen einer i.e.S. moralischen Auseinandersetzung gezielt von der politischen Arena fernhält. Hieraus folgt unmittelbar die These, dass die moderne Gesellschaft nicht durch einen Wertekonsens, sondern nur durch einen Regelkonsens zusammengehalten werden kann.
