Eficiencia Interna y Competencia de Mercado en Oligopolio

Abstract

En esta tesina analizamos la relación entre los incentivos de una empresa por incrementar su eficiencia interna y el nivel de competencia en el mercado. La eficiencia interna de una empresa se mide por el esfuerzo realizado por su agente para disminuir el costo marginal. El nivel de competencia en el mercado se mide por el número de empresas. Analizamos un modelo de competencia en oligopolio. Nuestro resultado principal es que la relación entre eficiencia interna y competencia es decreciente o en forma de U invertida, dependiendo del tamaño de la reducción de costo marginal. No obstante, el bienestar económico, medido por el excedente total de la industria, siempre aumenta cuando entra una empresa al mercado. Nuestro modelo es robusto a agentes neutrales y aversos al riesgo, contratos de deuda y accionarios, competencia en cantidades y precios y, presuntamente, a permitir que las empresas ineficientes no operen en el equilibrio. El supuesto principal del modelo es la independencia entre las realizaciones de costo marginal de las empresas.
