El acceso a las TIC en el hogar como determinante del rendimiento educativo en el nivel medio: un análisis para Argentina

Abstract

La incorporación de las Tecnologías de la Información y de la Comunicación (TIC) ocupa actualmente un lugar muy significativo entre las prioridades educativas. Estas tecnologías pueden contribuir al acceso universal a la educación, la igualdad en la instrucción, el ejercicio de la enseñanza, el aprendizaje de calidad y el desarrollo profesional de los docentes, así como a la gestión, dirección y administración más eficiente del sistema educativo. En este marco, el objetivo del presente trabajo consiste en estimar el impacto del uso de las TIC en el hogar sobre los logros escolares. En particular, se estudia la brecha en el rendimiento educativo entre los estudiantes de nivel medio cuyos hogares tienen disponible computadoras con acceso a Internet, y quienes no cumplen con esta condición. Con este fin, se emplea la técnica de emparejamiento o Propensity Score Matching (PSM) y se utilizan datos de PISA correspondientes al año 2012 para Argentina. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos, existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el rendimiento educativo promedio derivados del uso de las TIC en el hogar.
