Abstract

Abstract: "Given that forecast formulation of real economic activity is sensitive to the type of model used as well as to what variables are utilized; this document employs Stock and Watson’s (2004) methodology to generate a unique forecast for Colombian economic growth. This technique combines forecasts that have been constructed with different methodologies and variables. In this way, 32 different leading indicators were estimating using monthly series that cover the period between January 1995 and June 2008. All forecasts were combined using weights that punished the historical forecast error for each estimation. Results show that this methodology results in accurate forecasts, given that it integrates all the information embedded in the different indicators."
