Abstract

In this paper, we study the spatial distribution of poverty in Paris (extended to its close suburbs) on the grounds of a spatialized capabilist well-being informational basis. Using multidimensional poverty indicators as well as global and local autocorrelation measures, we show that some Parisian neighbourhoods were indeed segregated in 1999. By studying the spatial association of poverty and some characteristics of the labour market (labour accessibility, durability of the labour contract, profession...) we then show that the zone's socio-spatial differentiation results as much from the secession of the rich than from the relegation of the disadvantaged.
