Abstract

The global outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19, started in December 2019 in Wuhan City of China and spread worldwide very soon. The public was cautioned to take responsive actions, such as frequent handwashing, wearing a face mask, social distancing, and avoiding mass gatherings. Countries have adopted lockdowns and stay-at-home recovery strategies to control the transmission of the disease. In March 2020, India declared a nationwide lockdown to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. The economic and social factors of the country were affected. Businesses, schools, shopping malls, entertainment, transport, beauty clinics, gyms, and sports stadiums came to a standstill for a few months. This chapter focuses on how India responds to the pandemic and the associated economic and social issues through a literature study. It provides insights into the country’s recovery and resiliency to uplift the economy by adopting different strategic levels in business operations during the post-COVID-19 period. The chapter describes specific technological initiatives taken by various states of the country to tackle the pandemic and provides a few insights into post-COVID-19 management strategies for future resilience and adaptation to the new normal.
