Abstract

(The paper discusses Walther Mueller-Jentsch’s sociology of industrial relations. He contends that the transformation of erstwhile social capitalism has produced two distinct worlds of regulation, the ‘border regime’ of which is increasingly contested. It argues that what we are witnessing are class conflicts in the context of fragmented labour relations. As Wolfgang Streeck also notes, the movements that stretch from one world of regulation to the other can no longer be adequately grasped by the concept of ‘conflict partnership’. We must therefore reconsider some of the ideas that have long been taken for granted in the sociology of industrial relations.)
