Abstract

We used an integrated multiobjective decision model to guide decision making in allocating space when planning facilities in an academic environment. To help facilities planners to prioritize the often conflicting teaching, research, and extension service goals, we used the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). We then incorporated this priority structure into a linear goal programming (LGP) model that determines the optimum space allocation. The model was used to plan a computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) laboratory.
