Interorganizational Systems Assimilation and Supply Chain Resilience: The Moderating Role of Resource Dependence

Abstract

To enhance supply chain resilience (SCRE), an increasing number of enterprises are integrating upstream and downstream processes through interorganizational systems (IOS). However, IOS implementation tends to solidify structures on both the supply and demand sides of enterprises, creating specific resource dependence relationships that subsequently impact the ability of supply chains to withstand shocks. Drawing on resource dependence theory and dynamic capability theory, this study constructs a theoretical model to elucidate how mutual dependence and power imbalance moderate the impact of IOS assimilation on SCRE. Empirical analysis using data from 352 enterprises reveals that power imbalance positively moderates the process by which IOS assimilation enhances SCRE (including adaptability and responsiveness). In contrast, mutual dependence does not significantly strengthen the impact of IOS assimilation on SCRE. This study provides theoretical guidance for enterprises undergoing digital transformation and supply chain integration in turbulent environments.
