Abstract

In the Maltese Archipelago, hourly wind data are recorded at Luqa International Airport (latitude 35°51.5′N, longitude 14°28.5′E) by the Department of Civil Aviation. Readings taken over the period January 1993-December 1993 are evaluated. Data are obtained at a height of 10 m above ground level and 84 m above mean sea level. Wind parameters are examined assuming a Weibull distribution function for the recorded data. The assumption of a logistic distribution function as a possible alternative mode of calculating the mean wind speed is also analysed. A comparison of the two methodologies is carried out.
