Impact of risk and risk awareness coupling propagation on the resilience of supply chain in a dual-layer network

Abstract

In this study, we construct a dual-layer network model that couples risk and risk awareness propagation. The upper-layer network refers to the risk information-sharing network within the supply chain, while the lower-layer network represents the supply chain network formed by resource supply among enterprises. This model analyzes how risk and awareness spread interactively, incorporating firms’ varying willingness and ability to resist risk. We derive the dynamic equations and critical transmission threshold using a micro-Markov chain (MMC) approach. A multidimensional quantitative framework is introduced to assess supply chain network resilience(SCNR), identifying key drivers of resilience. We analyze the coupled propagation of risk and awareness in a real-world supply chain network. The results indicate that adjusting network structure can significantly improve SCNR and raise the risk outbreak threshold. Enhancing risk resistance awareness among supply chain enterprises also bolsters the system’s resilience and recovery capabilities, effectively curbing risk propagation. This study provides a new perspective on supply chain resilience research.
