The impact of digital empowerment on corporate green innovation: The moderating role of environmental regulation

Abstract

This article uses data from China's A-share listed companies between 2010 and 2023 as a research sample to verify the impact of digital empowerment on corporate green innovation (GI), while considering the moderating role of environmental regulation (ER). Empirical research findings indicate that digital empowerment has a significant positive effect on corporate GI; ER plays a moderating role in the relationship between digital empowerment and corporate GI; the impact of digital empowerment on corporate GI exhibits heterogeneity between state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and private enterprises (PEs); and the influence of digital empowerment on corporate GI shows heterogeneity across the eastern, central, and western regions.
