Patient capital and the high-quality development of manufacturing firms: the mediating role of industrial and supply chain resilience

Abstract

This study examines the impact of patient capital on the high-quality development of Chinese A-share listed manufacturing firms from 2010 to 2023. The results show that patient capital significantly enhances firm-level productivity, and the results remain robust across multiple sensitivity checks. The mechanism analysis reveals that patient capital fosters development through three dimensions of industrial and supply chain resilience: optimizing supply–demand matching, stabilizing supply relationships, and improving supply quality. By highlighting the structural role of patient capital in strengthening industrial and supply chain resilience, this paper extends the literature on the determinants of high-quality manufacturing development and offers theoretical and empirical insights to support sustainable manufacturing growth.
