Abstract

In this paper, the relationship between rock mechanics and temperature is considered, a thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) coupling model of fractured hot dry rock (HDR) is established, and the dynamic variation characteristic of fracture aperture and permeability during the heat extraction process is investigated. The results show that the variation of matrix and fracture mechanical parameters mainly occurs in the area with drastic temperature changes, and the changes of matrix elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio are more obvious. The higher the injection flow rate, the more significant the variation of fracture aperture. When the injection mass flow rate is 150 kg/s, the variation of fracture aperture and permeability up to about 1.36 times and 11.51 times compared with initial value, respectively. Under different fracture number, the thermal energy mining effect is the best, and the fracture permeability variation is up to 10 times of initial value when the number of fractures is 114. The fracture permeability variation is similar, with average values of fracture permeability variation at about 1.1. Under the three injection-production ratio well pattern conditions, the lower the injection-production ratio, the more noticeable the fracture permeability variation. This study can provide guidance for the selection of fracture network and well layout scheme for efficient heat recovery.
