Abstract

The energy released from the liquid fuel production process of natural gas is herein applied using Fischer–Tropsch synthesis for power generation, reboiler heat supply of absorption refrigeration system and input steam supply of multi effect desalination. The simultaneous design of units and the integration of processes in these structures reduce the equipment and increase the efficiency of developed integrated structures. In this paper, an integrated structure of simultaneous power generation, desalination and refrigeration cycle using a Fischer–Tropsch GTL plant, is developed and investigated. This integrated structure has capacity of producing 22.33 MW power and 3.756 kg s−1 liquid fuels. Absorption refrigeration cycle with ammonia-water mixture as the working fluid can provide 5.2 MW refrigeration duty with coefficient of performance of 0.4767. Multi effect desalination subsystem produces 16.83 kg s−1 potable water. The developed integrated structure has the overall thermal efficiency of 51.9% and the total exergy efficiency of 79.53%. The exergy analysis shows that highest amount of exergy destruction ratio is occurred in autothermal reforming reactors and equal to 31.4%. Highest and lowest exergy efficiencies are related to E110 heat exchanger (98.53%) and V4 expansion valve (49.13%), respectively. The economic analysis demonstrates that the period of return and the prime cost of liquid fuels are 5.844 years and 296.3 US$.m−3, respectively.
