Experiencing crowding at tourist destinations: An electro-encephalographic study

Abstract

•Crowding perception is studied with self-report and event-related brain potentials.•Participants report feeling negative with increasing social density / proximity.•Brain responses increase with increasing social distance and proximity.•The brain responses reflect an increasing urge to move away from the crowded area.•Electrical brain activity measures real-time processes of crowding perception.
