Abstract

In this work, we focus on a particular form of discrimination: discrimination based on place of residence. We seek to know whether individuals? neighborhood allows or not to explain the observed wage gap and, if it is the case, we seek to quantify it. We use an extension of the wage decomposition methodology proposed by Neuman and Oaxaca (2004). We estimate wage equations for two groups of young people (those who live in a ?deprived? area and those who do not live in this type of area). The results of our decompositions reveal a significant "unexplained" wage gap. This suggests the existence of possible discrimination based on the place of residence.
