Trois essais sur le rôle de l'innovation sociale dans le développement territorial

Abstract

This article, which consists of three interconnected essays, dwells on the meaning and impact of social innovation in societal change, and in particular in territorial development. By way of a condensed literature review, the first essay examines the genesis of the term social innovation in social science and humanities. The second essay focuses on the role of social innovation in theorising the model of the Social Region starting from the articulation between the various types of capital according to Bourdieu and O?Hara. The final essay presents the philosophy of social innovation as it has been applied in Integrated Area Development. It is argued that Integrated Area Development will only be successful if it is implemented according to the logic of the "economy of diversity".
