Abstract

Cultural tourism plays and important role in shaping the environment to meet the needs of consumers. The growth of cultural consumption (of art, fashion, music, history etc.) and the industries that cater to it has fuelled the "symbolic economy" of cities. Today, the attractiveness of a city becomes based, both on physical, tangible assets, and a series of experiences built around thouse assets, generally extending to the "living culture" and the local atmosphere. This paper focuses on the role of cultural tourism in the socio - economic development of urban areas, with some emphasis on marketing priciples and practices.
