Abstract

The aim of this research was to highlight the status of the artisanal food in many countries. A qualitative approach was employed, including reviewing the artisanal food literature and a review of the reasons for the renewal of its economic importance and attractiveness. Through a sample of international experiences, the study showed the increasing interest of governments in the artisanal food transformation sector. It showed the ways in which governments support these activities and the desired benefits from them. The study provides insight on policies to support the artisanal food that can help reduce the cost of nutritious foods and ensure that food systems are more efficient, sustainable and inclusive. The recommendations require that governments begin to reconsider how they can reallocate their public budgets to contribute to increasing the availability of artisanal food.
