Abstract

Working paper giving evaluation of the Indonesian land settlement programme - sketches historical background; describes selection criteria for migrants and suitable sites, preparation of land, and the provision of social services (transport, food, housing etc); discusses interethnic relations, spontaneous internal migration, the effects on geographic distribution of the population, standard of living, food production and regional development; notes obstacles presented by land shortage and high costs. Bibliography and maps.
