Women workers in an Indian urban labour market

Abstract

Working paper on problems of women workers caused by sex discrimination and sexual division of labour, comprising a case study of an urban labour market in India. Based on a sample survey (1979-1980) of 338 workers, discusses demographic aspects, educational level, discriminatory recruitment and promotion, wage differentials, management attitudes and employees attitudes. Includes case studies of the self employed in the informal sector and sex-specific labour market experiences of university graduates. References.
