Abstract

Working paper comprising a comparison of technological change involving agricultural mechanization in sugar cane harvesting in Cuba and Jamaica from 1958 to 1980 - discusses trends in agrarian structures, choice of technology, relationships between profitability and the political system, and describes agricultural productivity implications of the transition from a capitalist to a socialist economic system in Cuba, use of Soviet, Australian and other harvesters (agricultural machinery), etc. Bibliography pp. 84 to 86.
