Abstract

In unserem Beitrag setzen wir uns mit institutionellen Veraenderungen im oesterreichischen Wissenschafts- und Universitaetssystem unter dem Einfluss von New Public Management und Exzellenzpolitik auseinander. Wir nehmen besonders zwei Massnahmen in Augenschein, die Metrisierung und Verwettbewerblichung der Wissenschaftsarbeit. Dabei zeigen sich eine Reihe von strukturellen Problemen, zum einen Erschwernisse fuer die Grundlagenforschung, Einschraenkungen der Pluralitaet und der kritischen Perspektiven in der Wissenschaft; zum anderen haben diese Entwicklungen zu einer deutlichen Prekarisierung der Beschaeftigungsverhaeltnisse gefuehrt. Zusammenfassend stellen wir fest, dass Reformen, die mit Absichten einer Weiterentwicklung und Oeffnung der Universitaeten verbunden waren, erhebliche oekonomische, soziale und epistemische Kosten verursachen.
