Abstract

Military technologies have a considerable impact on the development of civilian technologies, with the formation of the military-industrial complex. However, in situations of international tension, they can become a double brake, through the application of the concept of secrecy applied to the national defence sector, and through crowding-out effects. While during the Cold War, military technologies in some areas were ahead of the civilian sector, today with the development of digital technologies and the faster passage of trade between the private and public sectors, this is no longer the case.
