Alkohol und Gewalt: Ein natürliches Experiment in Südafrika

Abstract

Über die negativen gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen von Alkohol wird viel geredet und vermutet. Konkrete Belege dafür gibt es aber kaum – fehlt doch die Vergleichssituation, also eine ähnliche Gesellschaft, in der wenig bis kaum getrunken wird. Das pandemiebedingte Alkoholverbot in Südafrika kam der Forschung da gerade recht. Daten aus den Phasen, in denen Alkohol schwer zugänglich war, lassen tatsächlich eindeutige Schlüsse zu.
