Strukturpolitische Herausforderungen für das Waldviertel aus der EU-Erweiterung

Abstract

Die bevorstehende Erweiterung der EU eröffnet für Österreich Wachstumschancen. Für manche Grenzregionen birgt sie allerdings große wirtschaftliche Herausforderungen – etwa für das Waldviertel. Der Standortvorteil des Waldviertels lag traditionell in den relativ niedrigen Arbeitskosten; in den neuen EU-Mitgliedsländern ist Arbeit jedoch noch billiger. Der Strukturwandel ist im Waldviertel noch nicht abgeschlossen. Durch Maßnahmen der Strukturpolitik in den Bereichen Bildungspolitik, Tourismus, Verkehr und Infrastruktur sowie Landwirtschaft können die Wachstumsperspektiven der Waldviertler Wirtschaft verbessert werden.
