Abstract

During post-80’s it was observed that “localization” is another issue that received attention next to “globalisation”. Being a combination of the English words: “global” and “localization”, “glocalization” has recently become a widely used word and concept. Again, another concept that arise parallel to glocalization is the concept of “subsidiarity” (locality). In this process, governence of cities shifted away from the responsibilities of the Nation State with clear boundaries, into the hands of corporations which are cooperating with multinational, international or supernational organisations where capital owners also are involved in. The municipalities in Turkey have therefore become the units that contribute to practically exercising the concept of “glocalization” and its existance in daily life.
