Abstract

Purpose: The evolution of financial technology (FinTech) has introduced transformative opportunities for the banking industry, particularly in enhancing operational efficiency and refining risk management practices. Huzhou Bank has pioneered the adoption of a green credit management system, achieving notable progress in FinTech-enabled green credit development, positioning itself as a representative case among Chinese city commercial banks. This study outlines the current landscape of FinTech-driven green credit development in China, clarifying the pivotal role of FinTech in green credit innovation. Design/Methodology/Approach: This paper adopts a case study approach to conduct an in-depth analysis of Huzhou Bank's operational performance before and after the empowerment of financial technology, and elaborates on the mechanism through which fintech plays its role in this context. Findings: The research findings reveal that FinTech has a significant promoting effect on the development of Huzhou Bank's green credit business. Practical Implications: Confronting the global climate crisis, the vigorous development of green finance has emerged as a critical instrument for advancing sustainable development. Against this backdrop, China has established the "dual carbon" strategic goals (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) to facilitate economic green transition and sustainable growth. Originality value: Green credit, an essential pillar of green finance, holds significant implications for fostering green industrial development and optimizing economic structures.
