Abstract

This paper characterizes Mexico-United States trade in 1981 and 1990 from computations of Grubel and Lloyd's index of intraindustry trade. The paper concludes that there was a structural change between those years in the trade relationships of Mexico and United States and points out the relevance of accounting for this fact in the analysis of the implications of the FTA of the Mexican economy.
