Abstract

In the last 20 years a rapid education expansion has taken place in Spain, with the support of important legal reforms and a strong increase in public spending. This work tackles two points of view in order to analyze whether equality of educational opportunity has been achieved. On the one hand, policies of education financing are considered, specially grants schemes, which define the 'rules of the game' and condition the possibilities of access to -and completion of- an education level. On the other hand, the results of the education system are also analyzed, such as schooling and graduation rates of different types of students, where the persistence of great inequalities related to the socioeconomic and geographic origin of individuals is observed.
