Smart rural policies and the improvement of supply chain efficiency: An analysis of the promoting role of digital financial development

Abstract

This paper empirically examines the relationship between the smart rural policy, the development of digital finance, and the efficiency of corporate supply chains based on panel data from 31 provinces and cities in China, as well as listed companies from 2009 to 2023. It also explores the heterogeneous mechanisms of digital technology. The study finds that the smart rural policy significantly enhances supply chain efficiency; digital finance exerts a promoting effect on corporate supply chain efficiency; the development of digital finance markedly strengthens the promoting effect of the smart rural policy on supply chain efficiency, although this moderating effect exhibits significant differences across enterprises of varying scales; the application of digital technology plays a mediating role between the smart rural policy and supply chain efficiency, with this mechanism demonstrating heterogeneity in high-tech versus non-high-tech enterprises.
