Digital financial inclusion and the quality of life of older adults: Evidence from China

Abstract

This study aims to examine how investigates the impact of digital financial inclusion (DFI) on older adults’ quality of life (QoL), focusing on life satisfaction, self-reported health, and depression. Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, we employ regression models and instrumental variable techniques to assess causal relationships. Findings indicate that greater access to digital financial services increases life satisfaction and self-rated health while reducing depression status among older adults. Moreover, DFI has a more pronounced impact on women’s QoL and low-income households. These results underscore the importance of developing policies that ensure equitable access to digital finance for the elderly, highlighting DFI as a key policy tool for enhancing the QoL in the context of population aging.
