The dynamic relationship between mobile payment penetration and cross-border e-commerce transaction volume: An examination of the mechanism of financial innovation

Abstract

This paper conducts an empirical analysis based on panel data from 31 provinces and municipalities in China to examine the relationship between mobile payment penetration and cross-border e-commerce transaction volume. The empirical results confirm that mobile payment penetration can effectively enhance cross-border e-commerce transaction volume; financial innovation has a significant promoting effect on regional cross-border e-commerce transaction volume; financial innovation plays a clear moderating role in the relationship between mobile payment penetration and cross-border e-commerce transaction volume; the impact of mobile payment penetration on cross-border e-commerce transaction volume varies across different regions.
