The impact of homestead circulation on rural households' income—Based on the mediating effect of non-agricultural employment

Abstract

This paper empirically explores the impact of rural homestead circulation (RHC) on rural households' income (RHI) and analyzes the mediating role of non-agricultural employment (NAE) based on field survey data from 721 rural households in Hebei Province, China. The results show that RHC can effectively improve the income level of rural households, especially showing a stronger effect on the new generation of farmers and low-income families. The mechanism test results indicate that NAE plays a significant mediating role in promoting the increase of RHI through RHC. Finally, targeted policy recommendations are put forward based on the research findings.
