The early head start (EHS) home visitor perspective: What does it take to engage parents?

Abstract

Parental engagement is at the root of successful outcomes for parents in early childhood home visiting programs (Korfmacher et al., 2008). In order to partner with families to set and achieve their goals, home visitors must both build and maintain a positive working relationship with each parent. Prior research has identified multiple factors that impact parental engagement in home visiting programs, related to the parent, the home visitor, and the program (Korfmacher et al., 2008; McCurdy & Daro, 2001).
