Finanzwissen und -kompetenzen bei Frauen – vom Sollen, Wollen und Können

Abstract

In an ever-changing world, with decisions of an increasing economic focus, financial education and financial literacy are becoming increasingly important. This is especially the case concerning old-age provision and retirement planning. Women in particular are more affected by a low level of old-age provision and the lack of coverage through statutory and occupational pensions. So, additional insurances must be generated via the capital market. Endowment with financial literacy is therefore particularly important for this group. Nonetheless, it is shown, that women have less financial knowledge than men do. This article makes it clear that in addition to education and income, the labour market participation can be another explanation for this gender gap. In einer sich verändernden Welt, in der zunehmend ökonomische Entscheidungen zu treffen sind, rücken das Finanzwissen und die -kompetenzen in den Vordergrund. Insbesondere für den Bereich der Altersvorsorge ist dies wichtig und dabei gerade für Frauen, denn diese sind stärker von einer geringen Altersabsicherung betroffen; die fehlende Absicherung über die gesetzliche und betriebliche Rentenversicherung muss über den Kapitalmarkt generiert werden. Obwohl die Ausstattung mit Finanzwissen und -kompetenzen daher für diese Gruppe besonders wichtig ist, zeigt es sich aber, dass Frauen ein geringeres Finanzwissen und auch geringere Finanzkompetenzen aufweisen als Männer. In diesem Beitrag machen wir deutlich, dass neben Bildung und Einkommen auch die Arbeitsmarktpartizipation eine Erklärung hierfür ist.
