Earned income tax credits and transfers to low-income employees - the Anglo-Saxon approach to more employment and less poverty

Abstract

The relatively high unemployment of less qualified workers has led many industrial countries to promote employment in the low-wage sector. Measures such as earned income tax credits and transfer payments to low-wage earners, which are wide-spread in Anglo-Saxon countries with wide income gaps, are however not transferable to Continental European countries.
